Clay artisans are not made for a factory kind of life. They work hard, but the best way to understand it is to think of it like working in your own garden. Music is playing, you may sing along. Friends drop by, have a chat and go again. Your dog may have come with you this morning, but heads out again when one of your children brings lunch.
You are used to working your clay as you talk to friends, sing along with the radio or hear your children laugh about something at school. Maybe you enjoy being by yourself, or you like to sleep in and clay in the cooler evenings. Some prefer sitting and working small items like the circle of friends and some are best at making our biggest pizza ovens.
We leave our people a certain space to work the way they like best. Not only because they will do it better. Also because when artisans get mad at you, they will let you know. They’re so much nicer when they’re not mad at us.
Eskimos know all the different kinds of snow. We really know our mud.
